Although Robert is not my brother who's name is also Robert Lewis, he is more of a brother to me than my own family. Our fellow classmate and former member of the board of SPAA needs our help desperatly. Please read this and if you can donate to help this wonderful person. Dear Friends & Family

My smile and my lungs are fading. As most of you are aware, I have had a lifelong battle with lung disease. My battle may come to an end unless I receive a life-saving lung transplant.  For the past year I have had to rely on portable oxygen to live my life. However, even with the oxygen my disease continues to progress, which makes even the simplest daily task close to impossible to perform. Most of you know me as full of life, but that life easily slips away when you can’t breathe. A lung transplant is the only chance I have at a somewhat normal life.

This brings me to the purpose of my letter. Organ transplantation is life-saving, but expensive. My insurance will only cover a percentage of the cost of surgery and I will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel and relocation to the Pittsburgh area and the costly immunosuppressant medications that I will need to take for the rest of my life. This presents a financial challenge that I cannot meet alone and so the UPMC transplant department has recommended that I fundraise.

To help ease this financial burden of some of these uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with NTAF.  NTAF is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 28 years.  All donations are tax-deductible and are administered by NTAF for transplant-related expenses only. NTAF also participates in corporate matching gift programs.  Thank you in advance for your consideration of a tax-deductible donation.
